BRAMIGK ESTABLISHED 1872
Bramigk became established in 1872 after
Paul Bramigk started a business supplying stained glass. His
immediate success allowed him to diversify into monumental
stone as a complementary product to his stained glass. He
obtained the stone from Leignitz quarries, which were owned
by J M Lehmann of Dresden and very soon was also supplying
granite for refiner rolls, melangeur and conch beds and rollers.
Lehmann were so impressed by Mr Bramigk’s performance
that they offered him the agency to sell their chocolate and
confectionery machinery into the UK. At the same time he took
on the agency for Anton Reiche’s chocolate moulds and
so Bramigk became established as a supplier of chocolate and
confectionery equipment.
The business prospered and the records showed that in 1886
sales had increased steadily. The business continued to prosper
and was only interrupted by the two world wars. In 1920 Mr
Jack Hillary took over the business and extended the agencies.
The Bramigk business ceased during the second
world war and recommenced thereafter. However it was a real
problem because Dresden, the main source of supply and centerpiece
for Bramigk, was in the Russian Zone. This hurdle was overcome
with the engagement of two leading technicians from Lehmann
and in a modest way started building refiners in Bristol.
Approximately 80 machines were built and exported around the
world.
Post war years saw an expansion of the Bramigk
business and the appointment of new directors. In the mid
1950’s an Industrial holding company took control of
the Bramigk company and moved it into public ownership. Main
board directors were retained and they still ran the business.
This lasted until 1968 when Bramigk returned to private ownership.
Since 1972, the Centenary year, there has
been a movement of agencies, with Bramigk now offering not
only for confectionery but also food, pharmaceutical and chemical.
In 2003 the business was taken over by Richard Kersley, Phil
Price and Linda Berrett. For the first time in 100 years the
head office was moved out of I. ondon to Chelmsford, Essex,
with Richard operating from Newcastle and Phil from Birmingham.
With Linda working from Chelmsford excellent cover is provided
for all customers old and new in the United Kingdom.
